Question: **Is there a correct time to water?**
Answer: Yes, The correct time to water is very early in the morning. This avoids burns from the sun during daylight hours and fungus from dampness from water laying on the lawn over night.
Question: **How often do I have to water my lawn and shrubs? **
Answer: Depending on your soil composition every other day is adequate. Sandy soil might require additional watering for shorter duration. New landscaping will also require additional watering.
Question: ** Do I need a backflow preventer and what do they do?**
Answer: Yes! Without a backflow preventer chemicals lawn fertilizer may siphon back into the your portable water system. New York State sanitary code requires that a backflow prevanter be installed on all establishments with underground lawn sprinkler systems. If you believe your system is lacking one, please contact your sprinkler company or us to inspect and or install one.
Question: **Is winterizing my system necessary?**
Answer: Yes! If you live in a climate which temperatures reach freezing. Winterizing your system your system would be advisable. Water left in the pipes in freezing temperatures will expand cracking pipes fittings heads and values over the winter months. To avoid expensive repairs in the spring, we recommend Winterizing before freezing weather is in the forecast.
Question: **There are so many different manufacturers of irrigation products, what brand is the best?**
Answer: There are many components that makeup an irrigation system. There is no one manufacture that makes the best of everything The system components do not necessarily have to be make up of one particular brand. It is advisable to use the best products from an array of different manufactures.
Question: **Will there be damage to my lawn and shrubs when I install a system?**
Answer: NO! A modern well-equipped contractor will have pipe-installing machines. These machines can install irrigation tubing without damaging your lawn. It is necessary to dig small holes by hand for connections and where pipe machine is unable to go. All holes are filled and property is restored to its original condition.
Question: **How do I know the correct amount of heads and the proper sprinkler heads for my property?**
Answer: Irrigation design is one of the most important aspects. The installer determines the amount of heads and locations. Every property is unique, there are specific guidelines as to head location and precipitation rate. There are several types of sprinkler heads, each with a specific purposed. Pop-ups are generally for small lawn areas, Rotary heads are used for unobstructed large lawn areas. Shrub Risers are installed in shrub beds. Drip Emitters are small planting areas.
Question: **Should I chose the cheapest contractor to Install and service my sprinkler system?**
Answer: You wouldn't select a Doctor or Accountant solely on price!
